Code of Ethics and Standards

All LACAA Members strive to be dedicated, ethical and
professional in the performance of
their duties. The nature of work
in the service of seniors, as in other care giving relationships,
is
such that they may occasionally encounter situations that call for
carefulethical and moral
consideration.
For that reason this LACAA Member Code of Ethics and Standards Practice has been
de-
veloped
to provide a ready reference point for LACAA Members for use when difficult
situations
are encountered. It is also provided to ensure quality and to further
protect the
interests of
Members
and LACAA.
The public ownership of the housing programs employing the Members of this Association
demands
the highest level of professionalism, honesty and integrity. The Association
encourages
the continued development and education of all activity coordinators
involved in senior housing.
To this end the Members of the Association subscribe
to the articles presented below and
agree
to maintain and continually strive
to improve their professional standards. |
Article 1 |

A Member shall at all times exercise loyalty to the interests
of the employer or firm with whom
the Member is affiliated (hereinafter
called "the employer") and to LACAA. They shall perform
their
prescribed duties in a reasonable and courteous manner. They shall
support at all times the
objectives and policies of LACAA as defined
by the Executive. They shall treat as confidential
any and all aspects
of the business of LACAA and any and all information relating to the
personal
circumstances of other LACAA members including health, financial
and other personal information. |
Article 2

A Member shall be diligent in the management, maintenance
and protection of the property of
the employer, resident, staff and
LACAA against all resonably forseeable contingencies, damages
and losses. |
Article 3
|
| |
A Member shall at all times exercise due diligence for
the protection of the funds of the employer
and LACAA against all resonably
forseeable contingencies and losses. |
Article 4
|
| |
A Member shall not accept directly or indirectly, any
rebate fee commission, discount, or other
benefit, monetary or otherwise,
which could be reasonably be seen as a conflict with the interest
of
the employer or LACAA. |
Article 5
|
| |
A Member shall not exaggerate, misrepresent or conceal
material facts concerning the employer's
or LACAA's property or any
related transaction. |
Article 6
|
| |
A Member shall at all times conduct business and personal
activities with knowledge of and in
compliance with all applicable
laws and regulations and the code of ethics and standards set by
this
Association. |
Article 7
|
| |
A Member shall not engage in any conduct which is in
conscious disregard for the safety and
health
of those persons lawfully
on the employer's property. |
Article 8
|
| |
A Member will at all times protect and promote the interests
of the employer and LACAA but
will
be fair and honest with all other
parties involved in any matter. |
Article 9
|
| |
A Member will neither advise nor render service in areas
or matters which exceed the Member's
competence. The Member will endeavor
to direct parties to those from whom competent advice
and service may
be obtained. |
Article 10
|
| |
A Member who engages in another profession, business
or occupation beyond the usual scope
of
services provided to the employer
or LACAA must not allow such outside interest to jeopard-
ize the
Member's professional integrity, independence or competence.

Article 11
|
| |
A Member will not make, authorize, or otherwise encourage
any unfounded oral or written
statements that are derogatory to, or
disparaging of, another Member's business practice.
All dealings between
Members will be conducted with integrity, courtesy and good faith. |
Article 12
|
| |
A Member shall not engage in any activity which could
be reasonably construed as contrary
to the loyalty and diligence mentioned
in the above articles. All Members will agree to provide
suggestions
and/or express concerns about LACAA policy only through prescribed
channels. |

Member Conduct
|
| |
To ensure orderly operations and provide the best possible
work environment, LACAA expects members to follow rules of conduct
that will protect the interests and safety of all members and
the organization.
It is not possible to list all the forms of behavior that are considered
unacceptable
in LACAA. The following are examples of infractions of
rules of conduct that may result in
disciplinary action, up to and
including termination of Executive Position and/or membership. |

- Theft or inappropriate removal or possession of property.
- Fighting or threatening violence within LACAA events.
- Negligence or improper conduct leading to damage of LACAA owned or LACAA
rented |

|
|
facilities. |
| |
|
- Sexual or other unlawful or unwelcome harassment.
- Excessive absenteeism or any absence without notice (Executive Positions)
- Unauthorized use of telephones, mail system, computers, website or other owned
equipment |

|
|
on behalf of LACAA |
| |
|
- Unauthorized disclosure of business "secrets" or
confidential information.
- Unsatisfactory performance or conduct and/or unbecoming conduct. |

Disciplinary Procedures:
|
| |
Two Executive Members will conduct disciplinary procedures.
An incident report will be written including description of behavior,
witnesses if any, documentation of conduct if any and action taken. |
| |
1. Verbal Discipline - Executive will by conference call
or in person make aware reported |
| |
|
|
actions, expectations of behavior change and possible follow-up procedures. |
| |
2. Written Discipline - Executive will send a letter
making person aware of reported actions, |
| |
|
|
expectations of behavior change and possibility of follow-up procedures. |
| |
3. Termination - Executive will by written communication
make person aware of reported actions |
| |
|
|
and notification membership will cease. In the case of termination
money will not be refunded. |
| |
It will be at the discretion of LACAA Executive to use any or all disciplinary
procedures.
Possible legal action may be pursued if warranted.
Documentation will be kept on file.
